Making Math Easy: Study Tips for Your Child’s Next Test
For a lot of students, anything that has to do with numbers is just a big no. Indeed, learning mathematics can be quite a challenge which sometimes lead to your child’s frustration and yours as well. However, math is just another subject that can be mastered with the correct type of studying techniques. In this article, we’ll be giving you tips on how to prepare your kids for their next math test. So put out your notebooks and get ready to crunch some numbers!
Tips on How to Ace Math Tests
- Encourage them to take notes and be attentive in class.
Remind your child that paying attention to the teacher is the very key to understanding the important concepts. Encourage them, to participate in the discussion by answering questions or by asking questions if they do not understand something about the lesson. Tell them to write down notes and copy practice problems to help when they review later on.
- Set proper review time
As a parent, it is necessary to instill discipline in your child to have a proper review time. Cramming will not help the child as this will not give him ample time to understand the concepts and to have drills on all the topics included in the test. Instead, consider creating a study schedule for your child and follow through it. Remember to get rid of anything that might distract him/her during her review.
- Use studying techniques
Your child doesn’t have to study for long hours, they only need to study efficiently. Gather resources such as problem sets and reference books to give you additional information on the topics. If your child needs to revisit certain topics and you are not that confident to teach them, you may look for a good Youtube tutorial video that your child can watch that covers the said lesson well. You may also want to create study outlines and practice problems as a review material for your child. Remember to be patient in guiding them through concepts that they find challenging. Since most children are visual learners, you may also draw or use visual aids to explain certain mathematical concepts.
- Engage them in group studies
Having a study buddy or a review group can make a huge impact on your child’s progress. They are more likely to understand the lesson when they have a companion to work with. You can encourage your child to take part in group studies and review sessions where he/she can be with his/her peers.
- Remind them to focus
It can be overwhelming during a test, so remind them to focus and stay relaxed. Before the test, you may want to prepare a special breakfast to help them stay sharp and alert. Always encourage them rather than give them pressure. Advise them to read the instructions carefully and manage their time. Tell them to check their answers twice before passing their paper.
- Get help from professionals.
If your child needs additional help in understanding your classes, look for a math center that can help your child achieve more in Math. KINETIC MATH is your TRUE Math enrichment center which offers energizing and engaging learning activities which help students develop numerical fluency, creativity, critical thinking and problem solving skills while enjoying math.
